Latest EMC product lineup

The latest EMC product is the new EMC VMAX. This is a family storage that is transformed to a hybrid cloud. The new EMC VMAX  is very powerful, more trusted, and has a new platform. It delivers up to 3 times performance and more than 2 times usable capacity than any other industry.

It is considered to be smarter because customers can now use trusted Symmetrix SRDF and Time Finder software for business continuity, FAST VP for improved performance, and others to extend the life and value of existing storage arrays in the data center. Below is a picture of the Symmetrix Vmax. They consider this to be smarter because the storage array has new levels of automation, non disruptive movement, and virtual server integration.

NetApp FAS storage line refreshed with FAS3220, 3250 models

This article discuss how the FAS3220 is a replacement for the FAS3210. FAS3220 has24 GB of system memory and eight processor in every high availability pair, where the FAS3210 only has 10 GB of memory and four processors. The FAS3220 also double the amount of drives at 480, for the large amount of capacity of 1.2 petabytes when fully loaded with 3 terabyte drives.

Another new storage line is the FAS3250 which takes place for the FAS3240, and has 40 GB of system memory and 16 cores per high availability pair where the FAS3240 has only 16 GB and eight cores. The FAS3250 has 720 drives while the FAS3240 has 600. The maximum capacity of the FAS3250 is 3.2 petabytes.

Network and Storage Virtulization

There are many types of virtualization- server, network, storage, and more. When people say "virtualization", they are usually referring to server virtualization.
Examples of server virtualization products are:
  • VMware Server, Workstation, Player, and ESX Server
  • Microsoft Virtual PC and Virtual Server
  • Xen
  • Virtual Iron
  • And more
Virtualization is "a broad term that refers to the abstraction of computer resources". Another definition is “a technique for hiding the physical characteristics of computing resources from the way in which other systems, applications, or end users interact with those resources".

This is how storage and virtualization works.  You will be able to access information all over the world.

Backup and Recovery

Computers are more reliable than ever, so it’s easy to forget or put off backing up your data. Computer drives still fail, and usually they give no advance warning.  And usually, when they fail, it's impossible (or very expensive) to get any data off of them.

Some computer viruses will corrupt your data.  Some computer viruses will bog your machine down so much that you can't login.
If you ever "lose" a computer to a virus, most technicians will advise you to wipe the drive clean and reinstall everything. That’s where Backups can be a lifesaver in these extreme cases.

Also, every computer has a Delete key, and sometimes it works too well.
Backups can let you save and organize the really important things, so you don't have to worry about what other people do with your data.

Storage Technology Companies and their important products

Empower Technologies Corporation (Empower Technologies) is a company based in the US that is engaged in developing Linux-based embedded operating software. This company provides development platforms and system technologies for embedded computing industry.
Empower Technologies has developed LEOs, which is a complete Linux operating system. They also offer General Purpose Embedded Technology, Digital Signage and Interactive Kiosk, Video Technology and Design and Manufacturing Services. Majority of the company’s products are used by developers, manufacturers, value-added resellers and system integrators.
Empower Technologies operates through its subsidiary Empower US, Empower Technologies (Canada) Inc and Empower Technologies (Shanghai) Inc. The company is headquartered at Richmond, Canada. Importance of Voting

Voting in any type of election, from local elections to Presidential primaries, provides an important way to voice your opinions regarding elected leaders and overall policies; voting also helps you decide your own future by electing a person who might reflect your own views. For the last couple of months there has been a huge debate for the presidency. I have not watched every debate, however I am aware of each candidate and what he chooses to do if elected.  The reason I chose to write on this issue is because I want to express the importance of voting. I feel that if you don’t vote you have no right to complain. Election day for the president is November 6, 2012.  At this time you can early vote; please check your county locations.
Voting is very important; therefore if you are at least 18years of age please go out and vote.

Open Source Licensing

An open source license is a copyright license for computer software that makes the source for everyone to use. This allows end users to review and modify the source code for their own customization and/or troubleshooting needs. Making your code available as open source involves much more than just indicating on the project web page that the code is licensed under a particular open source license. Not only do you need to provide a way for people to download and/or contribute to the project, but you also need to choose the most appropriate license and address other legal requirements. One of the most important of these is that you must be able to prove that the code can legally be released under that license; another is that people who download it must be told what their responsibilities are to the project owner. The license you choose will depend on your plans for the future of your code.

Cloud Storage & Security

The two biggest concerns about cloud storage are reliability and security. Clients aren't likely to entrust their data to another company without a guarantee that they'll be able to access their information whenever they want and no one else will be able to get at it.
To secure data, most systems use a combination of techniques, including:
Encryption, which means they use a complex algorithm to encode information.
Authentication processes, which require creating a user name and password.
Authorization practices -- the client lists the people who are authorized to access information stored on the cloud system.

Even with these protective measures in place, many people worry that data saved on a remote storage system is vulnerable. There's always the possibility that a hacker could attempt to steal the physical machines on which data are stored. Cloud storage companies live and die by their reputations. It's in each company's best interests to provide the most secure and reliable service possible.

A Day without your cell phone and Internet access

How often do you use your cell phone? How often do you use the internet? If I didn't use my cell phone or have any internet access today I would have been completely lost. I use my phone to access my bible, checking account, and to communicate with my family. Not only that but I the internet to check the weather at the beginning of my day. If I didn't have my phone or the internet I would have to watch TV for the weather or even take a trip to the ATM to check my bank statement.

SAN Vs. NAS

SAN (storage area network) is is a dedicated network that provides access to block level storage. SANs are used to make storage devices, such as disk array and are accessible to servers so that they look as if there are locally attached to an operating system.
Data in SAN (Storage Area Network) can be stored using two basic modules as DAS (Direct Attached Storage) and NAS (Network Attached Storage). A network, which is created by attaching storage devices such as disk arrays and tapes to a common server so that the storage devices appear to be confined to operating system, is known as storage area network. DAS is named because it is a directly attached to a server without any intermediary network involved. Main distinguishing character of DAS (Direct Attached Storage) is its direct connectivity through a host bus adapter without the use of the networking devices as hubs, bridges and switches. In a network attached storage system, many independent clients can access the storage memory. The aim of the NAS (Network Attached Storage) is to provide only file based storage devices.  In the same way we can convert NAS (Network Attached Storage) to a DAS (Direct Attached Storage) by disconnecting the entire network and attach the port to a single computer.

My favorite Open Source Product

My favorite open source is Mozilla. Mozilla is a proudly non-profit organization dedicated to keeping the power of the Web in people’s hands. Mozilla Firefox is a free and open source web browser developed for Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Linux, coordinated by Mozilla Corporation and Mozilla Foundation.
Mozilla was originally the code name Netscape Communications used for its web browser. Mozilla is also the name of Netscape's mascot, and when the company released the source code for its successor to Netscape Communicator 4.x, it named its effort to coordinate the further development of the program Mozilla.org. Though Mozilla.orginazation was founded by Netscape, it is a nonprofit and independent organization.
Updating Firefox
By default, Firefox is configured to automatically check for updates for itself and notify you when one is available. When prompted, just click OK and the newest version will be downloaded and installed on your computer. You'll need to restart Firefox to begin using the new version.
